India has made significant developments in healthcare in the last decade. However, access to healthcare in remote localities remains a massive challenge in our country. It is imperative to improve clinical skills such as communication, observation, triaging, case analysis, lab sample collection, patient management, medicine administration, record keeping, emergency care and team collaboration, which helps in better patient outcomes.
A robust health system is a key to a healthy society. And strengthening the health systems is critical to supplying and delivering quality and affordable primary health care. Global Civic & Social Organizations play a vital role in this.
One such significant program is the Mizoram Health System Strengthening Project (MHSSP), which intends to strengthen the management capacity and quality of health services in Mizoram. The clinical Skill development program under MHSSP is committed to healthcare improvement through technology-based training, collaborations, and innovations.
This assignment has been devised by the Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW), Government of Mizoram (GOM), with technical and financial support from the World Bank, to improve and measure the quality care of Doctors and Nurses in Obstetrics, Neonatal and Infant care, and Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases across the health facilities of Mizoram. This is part of the broader ‘Mizoram Health System Strengthening Project (MHSSP).
With rapid technological growth and digital transformation happening in healthcare as well, Doctors and Nurses must continuously improve their physical examination, listening, communication, and teamwork competency. In addition, medical professionals also need human relationship skills. A systematic curriculum is necessary to enhance these clinical skills in doctors and nurses.
For this upskilling program, we will use a special interactive methodology to measure knowledge of various clinical situations. Learning through Clinical vignettes, an abridged report of a patient summarizing the history, physical examination findings, investigations data and treatments offered, helps improve clinical judgement and decision-making process.
Simulation-based medical education is a proven pedagogical approach that allows learners to practice clinical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Such programs help doctors and nurses cope with critical situations competently in real life without compromising patients' ethical and legal rights.
It is an interactive eLearning app platform with gamification and adult learning methodologies. It will enhance the Clinical and Non-Clinical Skills through case vignettes and help understand normal to critical case diagnosis and management.
The clinical vignette-based approach offers iterations of debriefing and feedback for learners. It provides the learners and patients with a safe environment for practice.
This clinical skill development program is available for continuing education of healthcare professionals working in Mizoram. This program is offered through the MHSSP Clinical Skill Development App which is available to download on Android devices via Play Store.
The app offers a gamified approach to learning. This app aims to develop and enhance awareness of the proper professional patient care practice.
